Seaside's Big Barbeque Cook-Off

The state's only Kansas City Barbeque sanctioned cook off is the Q by the Sea. The event is a weekend long party and features contests, entertainment and of course lots of food.

The event took place for the first time in 2009, from September 25 through 27. The big central event is the Barbeque State Championship with entrants from New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania.

There will also be many cooking demonstrations with grill masters demonstrating their cooking tips and tricks.

The competition is serious, with both prize money and bragging rights as the state of New Jersey 2009 Barbecue Champion.

Here is a breakdown of the prizes...

Grand Champion: $2,500.00 plus trophy
Reserve Grand Champion: $1,200.00 plus trophy

There are also individual awards for chicken, ribs, pork, and brisket with each featuring the following prizes:
1st Place: $500.00, trophy
2nd Place: $275.00, trophy
3rd Place: $200.00, trophy
4th Place: $150.00, plaque
5th Place: $100.00, plaque
6th Place: $90.00, plaque
7th Place: $80.00, ribbon
8th Place: $70.00, ribbon
9th Place: $60.00, ribbon
10th Place: $50.00, ribbon

There is also a Chef's Choice and Open Desert category, allowing for creativity on the part of the grill masters.
